Mute the MIDI track(s) after rendering and store them in a folder in case further editing is required. your first question, I would suggest that everything you suggested can be used, but by far, as Doug mentions in the quote above, simply rendering audio more often is the most common approach when one starts running out of resources. ? when compared to other third-party Orch. are the strings very good, or woodwinds ? or some unique articulations of the brass ? or some of the solo woodwinds ?. What are the strengths of the Halion SO, as far instrument quality is concerned i.e. ‘Symphobia’ is on my list of future purchases, I think it can complement EWQLSO quite well. Freezing VST tracks, or Exporting tracks as Audio Stems, and then adding more VST plug-ins ? It would be helpful to know which option seems to be more popular as far as workflow, and flexibility are concerned, when working with a single computer.

PLAY, and VST effects plug-ins), what seems to be the best workflow to get the most out of the system. It is also quite demanding on memory and CPU resources.įor those who rely on one DAW computer for sequencing/mixing/recording, and also use a farm PC/Mac system/s to run demanding sample libraries, this type of setup offers a bit more breathing space to run large orchestral templates, but for users who rely on only one computer, to run (Cubase 5, VST Instruments i.e. Complete Plus (PLAY) is a very capable, and great sounding orchestral library. You can still use the instruments on older computers with less ram, but performance will suffer accordingly, and you’ll have to render to your audio sequencer more.”Ĭubase 4.5.2, Cubase 5, Halion 3.1, Wavelab 6, Jamstix, Sampletank XL 2.5, Philharmonik, Battery 3, Superior Drummer 2, EZDrummer, Kontakt 3, RealGuitar 2, RealStrat, B4II, Symphonic Choirs, EWQLSO, Gypsy, VOP, Fab Four, Silk, RA, Goliath, Chris Hein Horns, Omnisphere, Trilogy, Stylus RMX, etc., CC121, MIDISport 4x4, 2.8 GHz MacPro, OS 10.5.7, 10 GB RAM, RME Multiface II + HDSP PCIe. These are high-end products, we take advantage of the horsepower of current computers to make the instruments sound like they do, we are not so much interested in backward compatibilty, computers and ram are relatively inexpensive these days, and to get the most out of these instruments you need a modern multi-core computer with preferably 6-8 gigs of ram (or more).

PLAY has a higher resolution audio engine than Kontakt, and that’s why the instruments sound better, but that also impacts efficiency in single core computers, you can’t have both, but we make up for it with ASE in multi-core computers. “The PLAY version of our orchestra offers many improvements over the Kontakt version, including most importantly improved audio quality and ease of use with on screen mixing etc.

For example, buy a version of EWQLSO, and you can get a second Play library for free (the lower priced product of the two products would be the free one). Also for those who do NOT have a previous version, EW has just announced another two for one sale. You’ll need to order from Europe of course. Details are at the soundsonline web site. Yes, it certainly does appear to still be possible to “upgrade” your Kontakt player version of EWQLSO to the Play version. I want to close with saying I am not in any way trying to bad mouth Halion Symphonic Orchestra, I just want to learn about the advantages/disadvantages of East West Symphonic Orchestra. They loaded up a 70 piece orchestra, and it did not tax the computer memory usage too badly. I saw an East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra demo video and it was impressive. I guess what I am really after is to find out how user friendly EWQLSO is, and how well does it work with Cubase 5? I realize the above platinum package has 194GB of sounds which means they will be even more realistic then Halion SO (I will say that Halion SO has some nice sounds). Here is the package I am looking at in the EWQLSO product line. I would like to know how you feel the two packages compare HSO vs. I am sure there are Cubase users out there that are using/or have used EWQL Symphonic Orchestra. I currently own Halion Symphonic Orchestra (Steinberg), but I am wondering about East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra.
